Achieving Machinery Functional Safety According to IEC 61508, ISO 13849 and IEC 62061

This Paper discusses functional safety in machinery, according to the relevant industry standards such as IEC 61508, ISO 13849 and IEC 62061.

Machinery projects can refer to two distinct type B guidelines - ISO 13849 and IEC 62061. These are both derived from the parent standard IEC 61508, which stands as a reference for the parts ISO 13489 and IEC 62061 do not cover. We will highlight how the standards cope with embedded software development; we will then provide a description of PRQA's tools and how these can be deployed to help comply with functional safety in machinery applications.
